GvG cancelling timer
When you gvg sometimes the leader cancels the timer and restarts. So my question to you guys is:
What does it do? Do you do it? And if you do it, how often do you do it? |

When you first enter the queue, matchmaking attempts to pair you with another guild in the queue within a fixed amount of rating either way (I believe it's 100). This value increases (not sure if it's in discrete intervals or gradually) until the sixth minute of waiting, when you're eligible to be paired against guilds of any rating.
So basically, you cancel the timer when you don't want to play against guilds that are too much rating from you, be it trying to get a specific opponent that you know is playing, or avoiding playing sub-1200 guilds during double champ weekend, or dodging matches against the really low rating guilds being synced.

Fairly sure it only needs 1 of the 2 teams to have waited, which is why the system potentially fails now that there are considerably less teams playing overall, so new teams entering the queue regularly get paired with guilds with a large rating difference who have been waiting a while. Although this is beside the point, as why would you bother restarting the timer lol? Facing teams way lower than you is kinda fun to just stomp some ppl, and much better guilds are good practise. All match ups have their merits. |

There have also been many times where a friend's guild of similar rating decides to enter, but neither team gets a match for 20-30 minutes. 6 minutes of waiting opening up the entire ladder might be a simplified way of looking at it, but there is definitely more going on that is restricting certain match-ups.

Two guilds can't play each other again within 24 hours if they haven't both played at least five ladder matches in between.

When I played I would do it pretty much every time I felt we waited too long. For one, my guild mates hated playing games they were outmatched in, so I had to avoid those games to keep morale up so no one would quit early on me. Secondly, it just always felt like I'd get a match right after canceling and restarting. If I look back on it, that probably wasn't the case, but for whatever reason I felt like it got us matches quicker so I would do it.
I haven't led a guild in over 3 years though, and haven't played at all in at least 2, so I have no clue if it would be the same now though. |
